Cape Palliser Rd will get a $790,000 funding injection from the NZ Transport Agency for ongoing issues on the coastal route.
South Wairarapa District Council has secured the roading grant for works along a 2.5km stretch of road running past Holding Paddock and Whatarangi Cliffs.
Debris from high seas is often washed up from the road, small boulders and rocks fall from the cliffs above and the road is battling coastal erosion.
Infrastructure and services manager Mark Allingham said there had been major works along the road over the past 20 years, but there was no alternative to patching it up.
"You've got large cliffs on one side, ocean on the other, and should we lose it in the future ... we can't rebuild it, so we're trying to prevent it from happening."
