A fundraising dinner organised by the Masterton Rotary Club raised $15,000 for CatWalk, the Spinal Cord Injury Trust, founded by former champion equestrian Catriona Williams.
Hundreds attended the dinner at the Copthorne Hotel on Friday to hear Mrs Williams tell the story of her 1000km cycling trip, from Tibet to Kathmandu, to raise money for spinal research.
Mrs Williams spoke about her trip, with two other tetraplegics and 12 able bodied cyclists, who set out in June to get three spinal cord injured hand cyclists to Everest Base Camp and create a world first.
As well as the speech from Mrs Williams an auction of items donated by local businesses and a silent auction took place.
Masterton Rotary president Alan Kirkham presented Mrs Williams with a Paul Harris Fellowship, for her spirit and contribution to disabled sporting, which included a certificate and a medal.
