The Stu Smith fundraiser to be held at Copthorne Hotel and Resort in Masterton on Friday, February 15 is a sell-out.
Organiser Anna Murphy said the rush for tickets after a story was published in the Wairarapa Times-Age detailing Smith's battle with motor neuron disease was a clear indication of the popularity of the now 33-year-old who played 44 matches in the Wairarapa-Bush jersey, and many more for the Eketahuna club.
"The response for tickets has been amazing, all the tables have gone," Murphy said yesterday. "And we've had a heap of donations given us as well. We're absolutely stoked at the number of people prepared to help out."
Murphy also gave a "huge thank you" to coaches and players in the Hurricanes Super 15 squad who will attend the fundraiser and participate in an interview session.
