Fun and casual living

"Simplicity, a sense of fun, and casual living" was the driving motto for the design of this beach house sited at Cooks Beach, Coromandel.

The clients requested ample room for living and entertaining. They wanted to invite the beach into the home but they also wanted secluded and sheltered areas for evening dining.

In response the design provided two outdoor living areas. The first, with glass doors that slide away from view, is essentially an extension of the spacious living room.

It proudly fronts the beach, allows full exposure to the sun and captures the splendour of the sea.

The second outdoor living area, which is more for entertaining, is intimately positioned along the side of the house, protected by the living area and bunkroom.

Though situated away from the vista front, ample use of full height glazing allows unobstructed views to the beach through the living room. Dark grey tones complimented by striking apple green glass in the kitchen evoke a sense of fun and casual living - the essential elements of life at the beach.
