The popular DHL Global Forwarding and Recreational Services Pro Am tournament won't be played until the weekend of February 12 and 13, but a full field can already be guaranteed.
As at yesterday there was only room for a couple of more teams to sign up for a tournament that sees 18 holes played at Eketahuna and another 18 at the Masterton club's Lansdowne course. The remaining spots were expected to be grabbed post haste.
Many of New Zealand's better-known professionals have participated in the event, with previous winners including Mark Brown, Tim Wilkinson and Marcus Wheelhouse. Currently making big waves overseas is Mike Hendry and he too has been part of the action here on many occasions.
The format for the weekend sees teams of three amateur players matched up with a professional player for the two days, with the Eketahuna course being played on the Saturday and the Masterton course on the Sunday.
The event, which is part of a lower North Island pro am circuit which includes Waikanae, Paraparaumu and Martinborough, is in its eighth year and the professionals now play for a $15,000 purse.
- Teams interested in competing can contact the Masterton or Eketahuna clubs, or phone Mike Dixon, 378-8971.
