A fugitive on the run from police for four years has finally been nabbed after an alleged burglary.
The 32-year-old was arrested in Purerua, 26km north of Kerikeri, in Northland, after Constable Conan Brown was advised by radio that the alleged burglar was heading his way.
Mr Brown said the man had been wanted for two burglaries allegedly committed in Auckland four years ago.
He said yesterday that after catching the man he was "pretty stoked".
The man had allegedly broken into a car at Rainbow Falls, near Kerikeri, on Monday before driving to Waipapa and stealing alcohol from a shop.
Mr Brown said the man then drove to his home in Purerua with a 19-year-old companion.
The 32-year-old had failed to stop when called on to but was captured after a short chase - first by car and then on foot through scrub.
Both men were expected to appear in the Kaikohe District Court.
The older man faced seven charges, including failing to stop for a police officer, driving while forbidden and burglary.
The younger man was charged with shoplifting and unlawful interference with a motor vehicle.
