KEY POINTS:
A fugitive who had been on the run from the police for two weeks and made daily taunting phone calls to them has been captured.
Colin Carl Venimore, 35, was wanted on family violence issues and threatening to use explosives.
North Shore Police Commander Inspector Les Paterson said media publicity was directly responsible for Venimore's capture, after a national alert was issued on Saturday.
"The media greatly assisted police in their search for this wanted man."
Mr Paterson said Venimore was arrested by Wanganui police and would remain in custody until he appears in North Shore District Court next week on family violence charges.
