Most motorists should pay less at the pumps when changes to engine fuel regulations are introduced later this year, Acting Minister of Energy and Resources Hekia Parata says.
Updates to the regulations, expected to be in place by December, are being made to keep pace with the fuel specifications of other countries, as well as to relax some requirements.
The minimum motor octane level of regular grade petrol would be lowered
from 82 to 81. "This reduction [will] potentially lower the costs of sourcing this fuel by up to a cent per litre," she said.
