KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand Friendly Orchestra - also known as the NZFO and not to be mistaken for the NZSO - is playing a one-off show at St Matthews in the City on August 16.
This very special orchestra was formed to "knock some of the pretensions out of classical music" and, as they point out, music played rather badly can be comedic.
The Friendly Orchestra, whose set list is a light classical repetoire of popular favourites, will be made up of classically trained professionals playing unfamiliar instruments, "hopeless amateurs", and a star conductor who is not at all renowned for his conducting. It may not always be kind on your ears but proceeds from the concert go to charity.
