Carterton youth group Rangatahi to Rangatira is seeking $10,000 from the Carterton District Council in a submission to the council's annual plan.
The group has been organising leadership activities, volunteering in the environment, contributing to the Carterton Outdoor Gallery and providing a safe place for youth every Wednesday at the Carterton Events Centre. Its funding runs out this month.
The group is seeking $2000 to run leadership events for young people, $3500 for meetings every Wednesday night to provide food and sports equipment, a $500 contribution towards a ki-o-rahi tournament and a $4000 contribution towards the facilitator's wages.
The group says it wants to continue to meet every Wednesday night to "plan activities, play sport and get to know other youth".
"We want to be a positive influence in our community and to change the perception of youth in our town."
