Waikato residents renewed their calls for a commuter rail service between Hamilton and Auckland with staged sit ins at train stations yesterday.
People from Huntly, Te Kauwhata and Tuakau took part in the sit-in at stations in north Waikato.
VoteTRAINS.org.nz campaign manager Jon Reeves says it's clear residents want passenger trains now and there are a lot of business commuters, elderly people and students who would benefit from a commuter service.
Some 250 residents attended the event at Tuakau alone and mayoral candidates Allan Sanson and Clint Baddeley turned out and spoke in support of a commuter train service.
Mr Reeves hopes this means some serious action will be taken after the election.
