Police have no concerns for the safety of a French tourist reported missing in the South Island yesterday.
The woman, known only as "Celine", sparked a search operation when it emerged she was two days late returning from a tramp on Route 12 in Arthur's Pass National Park.
Last night,
a police spokesman said they had made contact with a Canadian tourist called Genevieve Forcier, who had been travelling through the park with Celine.
The spokesman said staff were due to interview Ms Forcier tomorrow but initial information from her indicated Celine was no longer in the park.
Police had called off the search and were not concerned for her well-being, the spokesman said.
