Freeview general manager Steve Browning says the digital broadcasting service has been "going well" in the two days since it was launched, though no figures on the public uptake are available.
He says appliance retailers have reported good sales of approved satellite set-top boxes, which are needed to receive the consortium's free-to-air digital television and radio channels.
The retailer of a cheaper alternative product, Peter Escher, of Satlink NZ, said he had sold 2000 units.
