Free roaming WiFi in many of Auckland's public places, including the CBD and main streets, will end on November 6.
Since the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Auckland Council has joined with WiFi supplier Tomizone to bring free WiFi access up to 1GB per day.
The zone covered much of the CBD, including the entire length of Queen St, Aotea Square, Wynyard Quarter and the Viaduct Harbour. Many popular destinations, including Devonport, Ponsonby, Parnell, Karangahape Rd, Kingsland, Mission Bay and Mt Eden have had free WiFi for five years.
Certain sites, such as the city's 55 libraries, train stations, nine community centres, the Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland Botanic Gardens, Shed 10 and the Cloud on Queens Wharf, will continue to have free WiFi.
In a statement, council IT director Mark Denvir said the council's five-year contract, entered into initially for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, with Tomizone to provide free WiFi in open spaces, will expire on November 6.
"The council will continue to assess its options for providing a similar WiFi service in the future," he said.
