Mates of Tairāwhiti presenter Melka Oakley is motivated by opportunities to lift people to their full potential.
With Tairāwhiti facing many ongoing challenges, a free stress management and wellbeing workshop is being offered to the community on October16 at Lawson Field Theatre.
Mates Mana is a one-hour session developed and delivered by Mates of Tairāwhiti - the not-for-profit workplace-based suicide prevention programme.
The workshop will cover a range of topics including stress management techniques, self-care practices and strategies for building resilience.
Participants will learn how to identify stress triggers, develop coping mechanisms and establish healthy self-care habits.
Mates Mana is designed to be interactive and engaging, with a focus on practical tools and techniques that can be applied in real-life situations.
It will be led by Mates of Tairāwhiti presenters Ivan Maurirere and Melka Oakley.
“In tough times it’s our collective strength, our aroha for ourselves and one another, and our willingness to kōrero that can make all the difference,” Oakley said.
“The new Mates Mana workshop was developed here in Te Tairāwhiti to provide tools to care for ourselves and others during these challenging times.
“We all have a role to play in creating a life-supporting community. Let’s keep these conversations going, stay connected and show manaakitanga to those around us.”
Mates of Tairāwhiti coordinator Bridgette Penny said everyone was welcome at the free workshop.
“This will be a very informative and positive hour for businesses and their staff, other local organisations and whānau who want to gain useful stress management tools. Places are limited, so if you’re interested, please RSVP as soon as possible.”
Penny said depending on demand, Mates of Tairāwhiti would look at arranging further community sessions.
“We’re keen to partner with businesses, including those up the Coast, to hold Mates Mana workshops on their premises.”
The workship will run from 5.30pm to 6.30pm in the Rose Room at Lawson Field Theatre.
