An investigation into possible fraud at Waikato District Council is nearly complete.
Council chief executive Gavin Ion said in a statement that an external investigation is currently underway into a particular procurement and contract management process.
"As a matter of good practice, the scope of the review includes any potential for fraudulent activity. To date there has been no evidence of fraudulent activity," Ion said.
A council spokesman said the council had brought in an investigation company and a draft report is expected to be completed within a week or so.
