Veteran broadcaster Ian Fraser could be a candidate for the Wellington mayoralty.
The former TVNZ chief executive told the Dominion Post he had been approached to stand on a ticket set up by property millionaire Sir Robert Jones.
Sir Robert declined to comment.
Mr Fraser said he would not "absolutely rule anything out because that would be stupid but I certainly have no aspirations and no plans for this as of now - as much as I love Bob".
The single item on the manifesto is Sir Robert's dream to create a pedestrian-only boulevard from Lambton Quay to Courtenay Place.
The identity of Sir Robert's team will be announced three months before the October election but the newspaper said it was believed to include prominent business people and a television presenter.
Mr Fraser said he was a fan of present mayor Kerry Prendergast who originally said she would not stand for a fourth term but had since said she was considering it. She was expected to make a decision after Christmas.
