A man at the centre of a murder inquiry in Foxton died of severe head and facial injuries, post mortem results have established.
Police said the Palmerston North man, in his late 50s, was found in the driveway of a Foxton chicken farm on Wylie Rd, between State Highway 1 and the west coast, at about 5.45am by farm staff.
Inspector Mark Harrison, from Palmerston North police, said the death was being treated as a homicide and about 20 staff were working on the case.
"Police are continuing to seek sightings of vehicles or people in the Wylie Rd area on Friday night and Saturday morning," Mr Harrison said today.
He said police had established the dead man's identity and were speaking to people who knew him.
A scene examination was expected to be completed today and police were expected to name the man tomorrow.
Meanwhile, police in Rotorua are awaiting post mortem results on a man found dead in a disused building in the central city on Friday night.
Brett Anthony Hunia, 39, from Rotorua, was found by teenagers in a failed multiplex cinema in Rotorua's old Post Office building between Hinemoa and Pukuatua streets.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper said the death was initially treated as suspicious but police had since established Mr Hunia died as a result of an accident.
Mr Loper said the cause of death would not be released until a post mortem was completed.
