Four people have died in separate crashes on rural roads today.
In remote South Westland, one person died at the scene when a vehicle carrying seven people ran off the road and rolled on Forks Okarito Road.
The remaining six passengers were treated by ambulance staff for a variety of injuries.
A 23-year-old Irishman was killed at about 1.30 this morning, when he lost control on a bend, on an unsealed rural road in the Ida Valley in Central Otago.
A 21-year-old escaped with minor injuries, and police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
In the eastern Bay of Plenty, a 14-year-old died when a four-wheel-drive rolled in remote bush area in the Ruatoki Valley at about 3.30.
Two other people in the car escaped uninjured.
And at about 7.30am, a man died on rural Te Miro Road east of Hamilton, when his car rolled.
