KEY POINTS:
An Ashburton funeral parlour was fortunate not to have many more clients on its hands yesterday when a four-wheel-drive crashed through its wall and into the reception lounge.
Paterson's Funeral Services director Roger Paterson said the vehicle had veered off the road, hit a telephone box and shot through the carpark before smashing through the wall into the funeral parlour's lounge, which sometimes held up to 100 people.
"I'm just so grateful it was empty and that there was no-one in the carpark," he told The Press newspaper.
The driver, a 64-year-old Ashburton man, was believed to have a medical condition and police have forbidden him from driving until it is checked.
