Four senior Waikato University positions have been cut.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (academic) Peggy Koopman-Boyden, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (research) Dick Bedford and chief financial officer Geoff Balme have lost their positions.
At the same time, the number of managers who report to Vice-Chancellor Roy Crawford is being slashed from 18 to 13 and the number of people on the senior management group will be reduced from 16 to 10.
University staff today received letters from Professor Crawford that said the strategic management and administrative structure of the university would be revised.
"Changes will occur in stages throughout this transition period. As with any decision of this nature, it is my intention that the new structure should be as cost-effective as possible," the letter said.
"I am confident that the achievement of this first step in the implementation of our new vision will serve the university extremely well in the longer-term."
