After hearing the father of her unborn child was facing a jail term, a Dunedin woman went to police and lied in a bid to clear him.
Haley Marie Thom, 26, told officers her partner was home with her on August 26 - the date he was allegedly involved in a serious fracas.
She remembered he was giving her updates on the All Blacks test, the defendant told them.
"You knew the father of your yet-to-be-born child, once convicted, would go to prison. So in the end you went to the police station and went there purposely to tell the police he was with you on the night of the offending in question; thus he could not have been involved," Judge Kevin Phillips said.
"You thought doing what you were doing would enable him to be at home with you, and you were prepared to lie to the police to do that."
