The drivers of two cars that crashed head-on near Queenstown yesterday afternoon died at the scene. Their deaths were among four reported on the country's roads at the weekend.
A police spokesman said a car driven by a man in his 50s appeared to have been passing illegally on a yellow line. It clipped a vehicle before smashing into another car, killing a woman in her mid-20s and seriously injuring her two passengers.
In the south Waikato town of Arapuni, an 18-year-old youth died yesterday after apparently falling from a truck carrying calves.
About 8.30am on Saturday, another 18-year-old died near Kaikohe after two cars crashed on a bend.
