Rescuers found four injured people lying on the road after a van collided with a farm tractor on a public road last night.
The collision happened 500m south of Lake Rd in Porangahau, in southern Hawkes Bay.
Two of the victims - a 56-year-old man and 16-year-old girl - were taken to hospital by the Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter, while the other two were transported by the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter.
Police were called to the scene, near the Wanstead Tavern, by Ambulance Services at about 5.30pm, Inspector Ken Climo of police central communications said.
Two hours later, the Hawkes Bay helicopter airlifted a 41-year-old woman who had been hit by a car while cycling on Hatuma Rd, south of Waipukurau. She suffered moderate injuries.
