A 14-year-old boy who died after the 4-wheel-drive vehicle he was in rolled was one of four people killed in crashes over the weekend.
Police, who were alerted to the accident at just before 12.30pm, said the teen was with two other 14-year-olds when their vehicle rolled on a gravel road near Turangi.
While a scene examination of the Kepa road accident had been completed, police said they were still investigating who was driving the vehicle. The two other teens involved - a boy and a girl - suffered minor injuries.
Another young man was also killed about three hours earlier following a fatal crash in Wairarapa. Senior sergeant Carolyn Watson of Masterton police said the man, understood to be aged in his 20s, was believed to have smashed into a bank after veering across and into a bank on State Highway 2, just north of Masterton.
The man, who is believed to be from Wairarapa, was the only occupant of a car travelling south on the road near Mount Bruce when he crashed. Emergency services were alerted to the incident just before 9am. Ambulance staff and an advanced paramedic, who was flown in by helicopter, were unable to save the man who died on the way to hospital. No other vehicles had been involved in the accident, Ms Watson said.
