The Electoral Commission has referred four possible electoral act breaches to the police, including one involving Sean Plunket, communications director for The Opportunities Party.
The referrals follow complaints about social media content on election day.
Two of the four alleged breaches relate to Plunket, who was director of The Opportunities Party, and claim he published or shared statements on election day before 7pm, which is in breach of section 197(1)(g)(i) of the Electoral Act 1993.
The Commission said it would not comment further as the matter was now with the police.
