A man is dead after a car crash in Palmerston North late yesterday, bringing the weekend road toll to four.
Land Transport New Zealand spokesman Steve Evans said today the 30-year-old man died in the accident at 11.09pm.
A 44-year-old Invercargill woman was killed in a head-on collision 7km south of Alexandra, in Central Otago, on Saturday morning.
Sergeant Steve Ereckson said Denise Kathryn Diamond was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital following the 11.15am crash but died soon after.
Ms Diamond's daughter, Alix Kathryn Diamond, and the driver of the other car, a 19-year-old Alexandra woman, both received minor cuts and bruises.
The cause of the crash was not yet clear, Mr Ereckson said.
A 28-year-old woman was killed when a vehicle crashed at Kohukohu in the Far North early Sunday.
Two of the other three people in the vehicle were taken to hospital.
The fourth person killed was a 34-year-old man who died at the scene of an accident on State Highway 4, on Parihauhau Rd, northeast of Wanganui, about 11.40pm on Saturday.
Acting Sergeant Andy Reid of Wanganui said when emergency services arrived, a vehicle was down a bank off the highway and the Police Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
