KEY POINTS:
Four men accused of assault after a teenager was fatally injured by a car outside a family birthday party in south Auckland have been granted bail.
The court appearances of the men yesterday followed the death of Senituli Siulua, 17, who was struck by a car in Papatoetoe early on Saturday morning and died of head injuries in hospital that night.
The men, aged 22, 21, 21 and 18, appeared in Manukau District Court yesterday charged with assaulting another female partygoer before Mr Siulua was struck.
All four men were granted bail after police did not oppose it. They will reappear in court for a pre-depositions hearing in May.
Detective Senior Sergeant Gary Lendrum told NZPA that further charges would definitely be laid but that police and crown prosecutors had not decided which charges to lay.
Mr Siulua died following a family party where young men who pulled up near them allegedly attacked party guests before hitting Mr Siulua as they drove away.
