Four people have been charged with firearms offences following an altercation between rival groups in Otaki on the Kapiti Coast.
Police responded after a number of shots were reportedly fired at a Waitohi Road property yesterday morning.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
A firearm had been recovered.
"It is concerning at any time when firearms are used, but even more so when they are used in a residential area where there is potential for innocent members of the public to be hurt or worse. It's lucky that we are not dealing with something more serious," Acting Detective Senior Sergeant David Thompson of Palmerston North police said.
