Former Waitakere mayor falls victim to scammers

Waitakere's former Mayor has fallen victim to scammers, who've been emailing his friends telling them he's stuck in a Spanish jail.

Begging letters asking for money have been sent from Bob Harvey's hacked Hotmail account.

While none of his friends have fallen for it, Mr Harvey is now locked out of the account and suffering from what he calls the woes of email.

"Right now," he told Newstalk ZB, "they haven't got any money from me, they're just pretty annoying."

Mr Harvey says the scammers are pretty skilful.
