A Te Wananga o Aotearoa tutor, deemed to have abandoned his job last December after returning to an office after it had been shut down, has won a $4800 payout from the embattled organisation.
After refusing to move to the Porirua office from Wellington, Hone Te Rito took a personal grievance case against the wananga, claiming three weeks' loss of wages and compensation for humiliation, loss of dignity and hurt feelings.
The finding appears to contradict a February 18 statement to Parliament by Education Minister Trevor Mallard that there were no pending employment cases at the wananga.
