KEY POINTS:
Former top jockey Leanne Isherwood today pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamine.
Appearing in Palmerston North District Court, the two-time Wellington Cup winner admitted possessing the class A drug methamphetamine, possessing cannabis and possessing a pipe for drug use.
She was remanded to appear in the High Court at Palmerston North for sentence on December 4.
A second cannabis charge and a charge of possessing methamphetamine for supply were withdrawn.
Isherwood, 35, stood quietly in the dock as Judge Gregory Ross was told her full history of drug dependency would be explained in a report to be presented at sentencing.
The methamphetamine was for her own use and to share with a person she was then in a relationship with.
She had no previous convictions and was living in a supportive environment in Palmerston North, where she had gainful employment working with horses.
She is best known for her dramatic upset on longshot winner Miss Bailey in the 1999 Wellington Cup.
She first won the Wellington Cup in 1993 on Dancing Lord, and rocketed to prominence in the mid-90s when she finished sixth on the jockeys' premiership.
She has since disappeared from the racing scene.
