A former taxi driver has pleaded not guilty to charges relating to what police believe was a false claim he had been attacked and robbed of $700.
Gerunder Singh Samra told police on February 5 that he had picked up a male passenger in Queenstown's CBD, and was later attacked and robbed by that passenger and two other men.
During the investigation, Queenstown police were given information that led them to believe the incident was a false complaint.
Police said in a statement after his first appearance in the Manukau District Court in May that the investigation had taken up a lot of police team and resources.
Samra was arrested and charged with making a false statement to police.
