An empty West Auckland house believed to have been a P lab was gutted by fire yesterday.
Fire crews and a hazardous substances unit were called to the house in Waterview shortly after 8am.
Avondale Fire Station senior station officer Brad Mosby said the blaze was well alight when fire crews arrived.
They had been told by police that the house used to be a methamphetamine laboratory, but that it had been cleared last week, he said.
A hazardous substances team was there as a precaution and washed down any fire officers who might have come into contact with chemicals.
Three fire trucks attended the blaze, and fire safety officers are investigating it.
