Former New Zealand Law Society president John Marshall has died, age 68.
The Wellington QC died surrounded by family at home this morning after being diagnosed with a brain tumour 11 months ago.
Mr Marshall was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the recent Queen's Birthday honours list for his services to the law.
He had retired in March as Chief Commissioner of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission after a five-year term.
Mr Marshall was a litigator who also specialised in arbitration and mediation.
