A former New Zealand athletics representative was today jailed for over four years for ripping off an insurance company and the IRD of nearly $500,000.
Glen Erkkila, 57, earlier admitting 54 charges of using documents dishonestly and four charges of theft by a person in a special relationship.
Erkkila ran a Lower Hutt accounting business Intrepid Taxation Consultants and filed false loan applications to Lumley Finance in 2005 and 2006.
In Wellington District Court today, Judge Stephen Harrop sentenced Erkkila to 50 months prison.
Erkkila's lawyer Keith Jefferies said his client had represented New Zealand in the 1970s in 200m and 400m track events.
