The Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal by former National MP Gilbert Myles against his conviction for attempting to obstruct the course of justice.
Myles was found guilty in August 2011 of attempting to obstruct the course of justice during a Serious Fraud Office investigation but acquitted on a charge of conspiring to use documents dishonestly.
He was sentenced to four months of community detention and 250 hours of community work.
His appeal hinged on the contention that since he was found not guilty on the conspiracy charge, the judge's reasoning should extend to the obstruction charge.
Myles was National MP for Mt Roskill from 1990 to 1991 before forming the Liberal Party. He joined New Zealand First in 1993.
