The former Chief Executive Officer of the Lion Foundation, who has been convicted of fraud counts, has been sentenced to twelve months home detention.
David Conroy was found guilty in February of one count of false accounting and two counts of false accounting by an employee.
At his sentencing in Auckland today Judge Gibson gave him a year's home detention on each of the three charges to be served concurrently.
Conroy must also perform 300 hours of community service, but it's not clear if he'll do that on completion of his home detention, or if he'll be granted special leave to do so. His lawyer says that detail has to be worked out with the probation office.
The Serious Fraud Office charges relate to three journal entries in the Lion Foundation accounts, in which Conroy wrote off more than half a million dollars of debt owed by the Strathern Inn in Invercargill.
