KEY POINTS:
Former TV3 journalist Ingrid Leary has been appointed director of the British Council in New Zealand.
It is the first time the council has appointed a local director, rather than someone from the UK.
British Council spokesman Adrian Greer says the appointment is a sign of its ongoing commitment to the relationship between New Zealand and Britain and is part of a strategic change in direction as the council works on multi-lateral projects across the Asia-Pacific region rather than bilateral UK-NZ programmes.
The council is relocating from Wellington to Auckland.
