A former mayor of Hamilton is calling for the city council to be sacked after the huge cost blowout of the V8 Supercars event.
A report released last week blasted the council for its mismanagement of the event, which will end up costing ratepayers over 30 million dollars more than it was supposed to.
Margaret Evans has written to Local Government Minister Rodney Hide asking him to sack the council, saying a new one could be elected early next year.
She said only current Mayor Julie Hardaker and Councillors Martin Gallagher and Margaret Forsyth should be retained as they weren't complicit in the previous council's actions.
"There are 11 of the current councillors who are completely reprehensible in their actions in the past and therefore are not fit to continue running the city."
