A former police officer has been charged after allegedly accessing personal information of 21 women on the police national database.
The 34-year-old man, who has interim name suppression, appeared in the Auckland District Court this morning on multiple counts of accessing a computer system for a dishonest purpose.
Auckland City Police Acting District Commander Jill Rogers said the charges are the result of a long-running investigation into the alleged inappropriate conduct of the accused, during his time as a police officer.
The 21 counts relate to the alleged unauthorised access of the Police National Intelligence Application system.
Police do not believe any other staff have been involved or complicit in his alleged offending.
