A 23-year-old has admitted his part in a Christchurch suburban street mugging in which a fork was used as the weapon.
Jermaine Trevor Kotara, unemployed, pleaded guilty at a Christchurch District Court sitting inside the men's prison today and now faces a first-strike warning to be given to him at his sentencing at the Rangiora Court House on August 19.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Paul Scott said Kotara was with an associate about 12.45am on February 21 when they came across a youth walking alone.
The associate grabbed the victim and held a weapon that looked like a fork close to the victim's face.
The victim said he did not have money. He noticed Kotara circle him and then step in to take his wallet and search his pockets. He took an iphone and headphones.
The associate then demanded that the victim remove his shoes, socks, and jeans, which he did. Kotara then threw several punches, striking the victim twice in the head.
The victim then broke free from his attackers and ran into the middle of the road, into the light. The pair chased him but gave up.
When he was caught, Kotara admitted punching the victim and taking his iphone.
Police are seeking reparations of $190 for the missing shoes and wallet. The victim was left with a throbbing pain in his head after the attack.
