Forestry worker killed

A forestry worker was killed last night - the second workplace tragedy in the area in 24 hours.

The accident happened in a remote area in the Rangitoto ranges, east of Te Kuiti, with little or no radio or cellphone coverage. Late last night emergency services still did not know the details.

On Wednesday a contractor working on a sewage line replacement died in Te Kuiti when a trench collapsed.
