A forestry worker killed by a falling log in Marlborough yesterday has been named as William Bryant.
The 53-year-old was pronounced dead by ambulance staff after the incident on a private forestry block in the Wairau Valley yesterday morning.
Police said he had been leading a crew of four workers when he was struck by a falling log about 10am, Radio New Zealand reported.
Mr Bryant was killed instantly.
WorkSafe NZ, which is investigating, said the death demonstrated the need for drastic change in the sector.
