A forestry worker was airlifted to hospital this afternoon after he was trapped under a falling tree in the central North Island.
Taupo's Youthtown Rescue helicopter was called to Kaiangaroa Forest after the man, who was working on a steep hillside, was hit by the tree.
He was initially trapped before co-workers cut the tree into sections and removed it.
Due to the steep terrain and the remoteness of the location the man, who had suspected neck and spinal injuries, had to be winched aboard the helicopter before being flown to Waikato Hospital, Youthtown Trust Rescue helicopter pilot Nat Every said in a statement.
