A forestry worker has survived a 350 metre fall in a remote area of the East Cape.
Fire Service staff used ropes and climbing equipment to come to the aid of the man after he plunged down the bank in a forestry block about 28km east of Opotiki.
North communications shift manager Scott Osmond said the man had broken his legs in the fall.
He had been taken to safety on a stretcher and flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment.
An Opotiki police spokesman said it was not known whether a vehicle was involved in the incident.
