The New Zealand Institute of Forestry has jointly presented its top award to two men for their contributions to New Zealand's economy, environment and society.
George Asher, of Turangi, played a key role in the central North Island Treaty settlement, guiding the new entity into maintaining a large forestry enterprise.
Dr David Bergin, a senior scientist at Scion and its predecessor, the Forest Research Institute, for almost 30 years, focused on indigenous tree species, particularly for commercial use and restoration.
