Only about 200 foreshore and seabed submissions have been received by the parliamentary committee set to hear them, and with the deadline on Monday opponents are being urged to get cracking.
The fisheries and other sea-related legislation committee has already decided to accept late submissions, but people are being urged to try to meet the deadline if they want to give an oral submission or want the committee to visit their area.
Approval for late submissions should be sought through the committee's clerk.
Green list MP Metiria Turei said the submission process provided an opportunity for people whose voice had so far been ignored.
She said a submission could be in the form of "a simple letter".
