KEY POINTS:
Forensic examiners have begun investigating the family home of a newborn baby which died in Bay of Plenty on Friday.
The child died in the early hours of Friday at a rural property near Te Puke, southeast of Tauranga.
Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross, of Tauranga CIB, said forensic examiners from Auckland and Tauranga were looking at the home and were expected to continue until at least Monday.
Medical staff at Tauranga Hospital have been speaking police along with members of the baby's family of the baby, including its 17-year-old mother.
Mr Glencross said police were grateful for the co-operation of the family members and the other witnesses.
A post mortem examination of the baby is being conducted in Auckland today.
"No charges have been laid at this time and police will be seeking expert medical and legal advice in that regard," Mr Glencross said.
