Two international students have been banned from New Zealand for five years after seriously assaulting a fellow Nelson College pupil.
The teenagers appeared in Nelson Youth Court today after previously admitting charges of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated robbery and kidnapping, The Nelson Mail reported.
The victim, a fellow international student, was attacked in late May, suffering extensive bruising to his head and body from repeated punches and kicks.
Judge Tony Zohrab ordered one of the teens to pay the victim $2000 and remain in custody of Child, Youth and Family (CYFs) until August 3 when he will reappear in court for formal sentencing before returning home.
The other offender, whose role in the attack was more serious, was ordered to pay $7000, and remain in CYF care until he leaves the country in early September.
Both students will have to pay for their own travel and will not be allowed to return to New Zealand for five years.
